We admit, the game does have some unavoidable moments where complete silence and stillness is needed and it can kill the flow of the level. Again, the series takes a lot of cues from the Hitman series and it works in it’s favour. You’ll have to slip out the back door without drawing any attention. You’ll have to invade camps, use intricate gadgets, hide and evade capture and then when the job is done.
The player will have to do a lot more than sit on a hill in the distance and pull the trigger. Speaking of that trade off, the attention to detail is apparent when playing through any of these contracts. Each setting is an appealing sandbox not unlike the Hitman series and to be compared to a title of that calibre is never a bad thing. Plus, the biomes are varied, offering new challenges, new sights to see and new structures housing your various targets. The player will have access to 25 locations, each being huge in terms of scope and scale. The reason being that they are happy for the trade off which involves sprawling maps, attention to details with the weapon physics and the visual splendour that is on offer in every map. However, fans of the series have pretty much made their peace with this. The stories are usually very one-note however and never tie together in a cohesive manner, meaning the game still feels very cold and clinical. This gives players an insight into why they are trying to shoot these targets in the head. So this title aims to tackle this by adding contracts. It’s a very dry and clinical experience that offers a very authentic sniping simulation, but very little else. The biggest gripe that anyone could have with the series as a whole would be the sheer lack of personality or narrative the game provides. Here is our review of Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2. However, the Sniper Ghost series has always taken a different route, having the player stay miles away from the action and use powerful ranged weaponry as their chosen method of assassination. It’s a feeling that many games handle in a similar fashion. There is something inherently satisfying about sneaking up on a foe, sticking to the shadows or completing a level without anyone knowing you have even played through it. The stealth game genre has been one that has seen a lot of success in recent years.
